Privacy Notice
Last updated: 13 July 2026 · Applies to WebD Reader (desktop) and WebD Reader Online
This notice explains how WebDocument.org (“we”) handles information when you use WebD Reader desktop apps and WebD Reader Online (the “Apps”). Your document files stay under your control on your device unless you choose to share them yourself.
1. Documents and local data
The Apps open and edit .webd / Markdown files on your computer or browser.
Document content, form field values, annotations, and file names are processed
locally and are not uploaded to
WebDocument.org servers as part of normal reading or saving.
Preferences (theme, display name, consent choices, recent files where applicable) are stored in local storage or similar browser/app storage on your device.
2. Optional product analytics
If you opt in, we collect anonymous product usage analytics so we can improve the Apps (for example: app open, document open success/failure reasons, feature use such as search or save, update-check outcomes on desktop). Events are sent to a third-party analytics service we use as a processor.
- Analytics are off by default until you accept in the first-run prompt or enable them in Settings.
- We use a random anonymous ID on your device — not your name or email (unless you later use a signed-in account, which these Apps do not require today).
- We do not send document text, form values, search queries, annotation content, or full file paths.
- Desktop, Online Reader, and the marketing site use separate analytics projects.
- Our analytics provider processes data under their terms and privacy policy as our processor.
3. Desktop software updates
The desktop app may check a public version manifest (hosted with our distribution materials) for optional or required updates. That check sends a normal network request for the manifest and is separate from analytics. Update-related analytics events are sent only if you have opted in to analytics.
4. Your choices
- First launch: Accept or decline analytics; you can open this Privacy Notice before deciding.
- Settings: Enable or disable “Usage analytics” at any time.
- Decline / disable: The Apps continue to work; we simply do not send analytics events.
5. Legal bases and children
Where consent is required for analytics, we rely on your opt-in. The Apps are not directed at children under 16. Do not use analytics features if local law requires a different consent model than we provide.
6. Changes
We may update this notice. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Material changes to analytics may be reflected in an in-app notice or a new consent prompt when appropriate.
7. Contact
